Advanced Modularity

Cleantron has developed and incorporated advanced BMS solutions enabling Battery Modules to work together in different configurations:

  • MPC: Parallel Discharge:
Cleantron’s Multiple Pack Configuration (MPC) firmware solution allows multiple Battery Modules to safely collaborate. This can be done by having multiples Packs discharging in parallel (for more capacity) or to have multi Packs discharging sequentially (for battery swapping).
  • High Power MPC: Power & Portable Capacity
The HP-MPC (High Power-Multi Pack Configuration) Technology is Cleantron’s answer to the demand for high power performance in combination with portable batteries. The HP-MPC System allows for a high-power, optionally cooled, fixed battery pack that is paired with one or more of portable high-energy battery packs, that extend the range of the vehicle by charging the fixed battery pack. Due to the portability this even allows for instantaneous ‘re-filling’ of the vehicle’s energy supply, thus making it ideal for medium long journeys.

Certification

Battery Certification

Cleantron closely collaborates with DEKRA in Arnhem the Netherlands, and other Certifying Bodies in Europe and North America. Dependent upon application, usage circumstance and geographic markets, Cleantron can advise you on several Certification topics. Due to her experience and collaborations, Cleantron can also manage the certification test procedures at the Test Institute for you.

Most common certifications are:

  • UN38.3 (road, ocean and air transportation)
  • IEC 62133 (portable devices and often applied for e-bikes)
  • IEC 62619 (AGVs and pallet trucks)
  • EN 50604-1 (Light Electric Vehicles)
  • UL 2271 (Light Electric Vehicles, AGV’s and Hand Pallet Wagons)
  • UL 2054 (small Portable Batteries)

Functional Safety

Cleantron can develop batteries in compliance with Functional safety (IEC 61508; ISO 13849 and ISO 26262). Particularly for Light Electric Vehicles like e.g. Micro Cars and last-mile Vehicles, as well as for batteries applied in electric Motorcycles, Cleantron can develop SIL2 tailored batteries.

Certification Development & Production Process

The Cleantron development and production process is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified. Cleantron is currently applying for IATF 16949.

Industralization

Volume

The Cleantron facility is located close to the ports of Amsterdam and
Rotterdam and is next door to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands.
Apart from automated Assembly Lines for mainstream
Production, Cleantron also has a Test Laboratory and Prototyping Facility. The
production Series can therefore vary from α (alfa) – δ (delta) Prototypes up to mainstream industrial Series as well as mid-sized automotive Series. As from 2023, Cleantron is gearing up for larger mainstream industrial series as well as mid-sized automotive series.

Production Technology

Since 2014 Cleantron produces Battery Packs in her automated assembly plant, that are based on a Design for Assembly, Mechanical FEA and Thermal Analyses.

Cleantron applies the following industrialized connective technologies:
Resistance welding: Cleantron uses in-house developed welding stations with weld cycle control and data storage.
Laser-welding: Cleantron uses (fiber) laser technology for the welding of (primarily prismatic) cells.
In addition, in order to control the quality of adhesive bonding plasma cleaning can be applied.

For the structural solutions (housings) we generally apply aluminum or injection molded plastic structural parts applying the latest generation thermal conductive plastics. To produce an optimal thermal path, we can apply Gap Filling technology.

At Cleantron production, the human factor is restricted to inlay, manipulation. Selection, assembly and intermediate approval-processes are automated, securing consistent quality.

Driveline Integration

Motor Controllers

No open ends. System integration is a crucial part of a working solution. Cleantron can design the communication with the Charger and Motor Controller included embedded intelligence needed for a flawless functioning under all circumstance. Cleantron closely collaborates with Curtis and Sevcon.

(Fast) Charging

Charging is vital for every Battery. Therefore, for straight forward indoor applications, we recommend quality chargers of IEB. In case of special chemistries, e.g. LTO cells, Cleantron can develop dedicated charging protocols for (ultra) fast charging like opportunity charging.

In case of specific charge requirements, e.g. fast charging, charging protocols can be developed and set for every battery type and your specific application. Here we have a collaboration with Delta Q.

Users Interfaces & Remote Monitoring

Communication is everything; Cleantron’s new connected battery pack solution provides remote monitoring of the battery’s health, temperature, voltage, current and state of charge data, which are critical for maximizing performance and cycle-life. Users also can track each battery’s location, providing additional key insights into the status of high-value mobile/portable assets such as medical equipment, Industry 4.0 equipment and light electric vehicles. Cleantron closely collaborates with Liniair, NXP, ST, T1 and Telit.

Automotive Engineering

Cleantron has its roots in the Automotive industry and is familiar with Automotive engineering processes. Cleantron offers the following engineering services:

  • Advanced BMS Development with advanced sensing and algorithm development
  • Mechanical Design
  • Production Development

Advanced BMS Development

Cleantron understands the automotive need for cost effective high value solutions. The Cleantron Research activities resulted in advanced BMS concepts that offer best-in-class Sensing Technology without the need for costly Sensing Hardware as our algorithms calculate and predict values, instead of measuring the values afterwards. Cleantron has the skillset to develop against ISO 26262. In addition Cleantron developed a network within the automotive industry in order to develop in accordance with several general and OEM specific automotive standards.

Mechanical Design

Cleantron has in-depth experience in designing mechanical structures of Battery Modules for both cylindrical and prismatic cell types. Our design philosophy is based on component & process integration to reduce cost.

Our engineers can develop with you the best Thermal and Crash Behavior.
In addition, our Quality Control plan is an integral part of the design process. Cleantron has the ability to perform full FE simulation to evaluate the battery strength, harmonic response, crash behavior and thermal behavior.

Production Development

Cleantron developed a number of dedicated production processes for it’s in-house production.
In addition, Cleantron is further developing both low and high-volume production technologies that allow better part quality and a most cost-effective production process. The key to these developments is always the integration of quality control steps in every step of the production process (allowing better yield performance) and the integration of production processes allowing less handling and lower production cost.
